Welcome to the Summer 2026 term!
Important Communications Update:
The NUSL SBA Executive Board has been informed that we will soon no longer have access to the ListServe that allows us to send emails to all students enrolled at NUSL. As a result, we will not be able to send out informational emails and updates to students, such as the weekly newsletter or announcements about things like construction issues or door access. Because we believe it is important that students have access to open communication and information about things that impact the student body, we plan to shift from email announcements to announcements via Canvas and Engage. When we lose access, we will use those platforms to communicate with students in keeping with our commitment to representing and advocating for the student body. However, due to concerns about future access to these other platforms, we will also be sending out an email collecting emails manually. We will keep you updated as we learn more! Regardless of the final format of the newsletter, you can always reach out to us at nuslsba@northeastern.edu.

Consider Federal Courts for Your Fall 2026 Class Schedule! The Federal Courts TAs want to spread the word that if you’re at all interested in taking the class during your time at law school, you should make sure to take it this fall! This is the last time the current professor, Erin Islo, will be teaching the course until 2029. Having taken the class with her, we cannot recommend it enough: she teaches an extremely engaging course, and it’s an important class to take if you’re following all the federal litigation going on right now, applying for a federal clerkship, or hoping to work somewhere that engages with a lot of federal cases. Also, Erin allows technology in class and has an open-book test, which is not always the case when Fed Courts is offered. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to TAs Kaya Edwards (edwards.kay@northeastern.edu) and Liam Grennon (grennon.w@northeastern.edu).

Northeastern’s National Moot Court Competition team is looking for one or two 2L/3L students to join this year’s team.
The National Moot Court Competition is the nation’s oldest inter-law school moot court competition. Organized by the New York City Bar Association, it is a general appellate advocacy competition - not one focused on a particular area of law. More than 100 law schools compete across 15 regional competitions. Our region includes most law schools in New England.
Timeline & Commitment: The competition begins when the problem is released at the end of September. We then have one month to write an appellate brief addressing the issues presented. After the brief is served on the other teams, we begin mooting in preparation for the oral advocacy portion of the competition. We have one month to moot before competing in the regional round, which will be hosted at Suffolk Law the weekend before Thanksgiving. By applying, you must be prepared to meet regularly with the team (approximately three times per week) from mid-September through November.
Opportunity: You can earn up to three credits for participating. You may also be able to fulfill the upper-level writing requirement with your portion of the brief.
Application: To apply, please email a single PDF to Emilly LaFleur (lafleur.e@northeastern.edu) containing:
* A subject line with "NMCC Application - Lastname, Nirstname"
* A title page with only your name on it. This should be the only place your name appears in the document.
* Your academic transcript with all course evaluations.
* A writing sample (~10 pages or less).
* Your resume (one page)
* A brief statement explaining why you are interested in joining the team.
Applications are due August 28, 2026, at 11:59 PM.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Liam Grennon (grennon.w@northeastern.edu) or Prof. Lizotte (c.lizotte@northeastern.edu).

New Bones Magazine, published by The Abolitionist Zone (ALZ), launched its first volume this Spring. The pieces in the issue, themed "Abolition is All Around" and featuring both past and current Northeastern students and faculty, cover a range of topics from spatial design to Palestinian poetry. But they are unified by their determination that abolitionist possibilities exist in all areas of life, not as some future edict, but as a result of the love and solidarity that we can exercise in the present.
