NSA is mainly focused on creating a “home away from home” by integrating the mission of fostering a tight-knit community through social support and traditional gatherings, combining it with the objective of promoting Nepali heritage and cultural awareness through high visibility events and celebrations within the university. Our goal is to serve as the bridge for the Nepali graduate students to engage with both their cultural roots and professional opportunities in Boston.
NSA does not discriminate on the basis of race, national origin, color, gender, gender identity, religion, religious creed, genetics, sex, age, ancestry, veteran status, disability, or sexual orientation. Membership will be open to all full-time Northeastern University Graduate students. Undergraduate students, part-time graduate students, College of Professional Studies students, and non-Northeastern affiliates may become associate members by paying a membership fee that is set by the executive board but will not exceed $20 per semester. Associate members are not eligible to vote or hold any position within this organization by either election or appointment. NSA will always maintain a membership of at least twelve members at all times
A Note from Our Founder
Namaste, and welcome home.
My name is Prajjawal Jung Pratap Singh, also known as PJ or Prajjawal Singh. I am the Founder and President of the 1st Nepali Students' Association (Club) at Northeastern University across the world, which is a fancy way of saying I'm the guy who got tired of explaining where Nepal is on the map and decided we needed a whole club for it. We are located in the Boston campus and this was part of my journey as a Graduate student at Northeastern University Boston (2024 Fall - 2026 Fall).
Here's the truth. Leaving Nepal doesn't mean leaving behind the sound of your mother's voice calling you for tea, the chaos of Dashain family gatherings, or that specific ache you feel when someone says "Nepal" in a movie and your whole chest tightens. You just carry it with you, quietly, across oceans and time zones, hoping you'll find people who carry the same thing.
That's why NSA exists.
We built this club from scratch: the paperwork, the constitution, the late nights convincing Northeastern's administration that yes, momos are a legitimate cultural institution worth celebrating. It wasn't glamorous. It was a lot of Google Forms and even more WhatsApp messages. But somewhere between the bureaucracy and the group chats, something real took shape. A community. A home away from home. A place where you don't have to explain the punchline of a Nepali joke, because everyone's already laughing.
We are students, dreamers, engineers, artists, and everyone in between, bonded by mountains most of us haven't seen in years and a culture we refuse to let fade into the background of our new American lives.
So if you're Nepali, half Nepali, Nepali at heart, or just someone who's curious and hungry for good food and better company, come find us. There's always room for one more at this table.
Twenty years from now, long after we've all graduated and scattered across the world again, I hope this club is still standing. I hope some student who feels a little lost and a little homesick finds NSA and feels, for the first time since landing in Boston, like they can breathe.
That's the whole point. That's why we started this.
