Mission
The Indian Cultural Association (ICA) at Northeastern University is a student-led organization dedicated to creating an inclusive community for Indian students and anyone interested in Indian culture. Our mission is to bridge the gap between international Indian students and American-born Indian students by fostering dialogue, education, and mutual understanding. We address challenges such as cultural misrepresentation, internalized racism, and misconceptions through immersive programming that highlights India’s diverse subcultures. ICA’s goal is to work on building personal, professional, and cultural identity for Indian students across campus. It was created upon the Founder’s own experience with internalized racism on campus where one of her peers from her ethnicity asked her to “Go back to India”. After this, ICA’s founding team carried 20+ interviews about similar encounters—establishing a dire need for the club.

Our primary audience includes international Indian students seeking connection (both socially and professionally), American-born Indian students exploring their heritage, and non-Indian students eager to learn about India beyond mainstream portrayals. To achieve our goals, we host events like Chai Chats, where we delve into the politics, traditions, and cuisine of specific Indian states (e.g., Punjab, Gujarat). We also organize cultural educational fairs, career building panels, and community building programs like the Partner Project, which pairs international and American-born students for intercultural exchange.

ICA’s operations follow a structured framework: 5% general meetings, 65% cultural education,10% professional networking events and 20% exposure events. This balance ensures we meet our mission holistically while providing members with varied opportunities to engage, learn, and immerse themselves in Indian culture.
